Victor Bahmani

Research trainee

Victor is a research trainee (Forskaraspirant) and a medical student at Umeå University. As part of the university’s “Forskaraspiranterna program”, he joins our lab during the summer months to gain hands-on experience in medical research alongside his formal medical education. This initiative offers motivated students early exposure to scientific thinking and laboratory methods within a research-driven environment.

In our lab, Victor investigates how proteins implicated in neurodegenerative diseases influence mitochondrial translation and proteostasis. His project focuses on understanding how mitochondrial quality control mechanisms respond to proteotoxic stress associated with disease-relevant proteins. He primarily employs flow cytometry and immunoblotting, and is actively developing skills in cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

Victor’s time in the lab reflects his strong interest in bridging basic science with clinical relevance and contributes to our broader efforts to understand mitochondrial dysfunction in human disease.
