Our Facilities and Infrastructure

Our lab, nestled in the heart of Umeå University’s main campus, is a testament to our commitment to cutting-edge mitochondrial biochemistry research. We take pride in our own state-of-the-art facilities, which provide ample space and are ideally suited for our work. Our lab also houses a dedicated isotope lab, where we delve into the intricacies of newly synthesized proteins.

In addition, our department is outfitted with a wide array of equipment including various centrifuges, incubators, microscopes, a flow cytometer, Äkta chromatography systems, immunoblot and fluorescence detectors, as well as 3D printers. We also have temperature-controlled rooms for sensitive experiments. All these resources are conveniently located on the same floor as our lab, ensuring an efficient workflow.

Our Department is located at the Chemical Biological Centre (Kemiskt Biologiskt Centrum, KBC), which provides us with outstanding research infrastructure and core facilities. Among others, we have access to:

  • Biochemical Imaging Centre Umeå

  • Umeå Centre for Electron Microscopy

  • NMR Core Facility

  • Chemical Biology Consortium Sweden

  • Protein Expertise Platform

  • Swedish Metabolomics Centre

At Umeå University, we foster a collegial and collaborative work environment. Our Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics is a hub of interdisciplinary dialogue, with weekly meetings to discuss our scientific pursuits and a MedChem Seminar series featuring engaging external speakers.

Our social room, offering complimentary coffee, tea, and fruits, serves as a central gathering point for ‘Fika’ - the cherished Swedish coffee breaks. The department also hosts weekly sports activities, including Floorball (Innebandy), as well as Friday Pub evenings in our social room, further nurturing our community spirit.
