Welcome Mayur Bajaj!
We are delighted to announce the arrival of our new postdoctoral fellow, Mayur Bajaj!
Originally from India, Mayur recently completed his PhD at IISER Tirupati, where he investigated how plants maintain protein homeostasis during acquired thermotolerance using Arabidopsis as a model system. His research revealed how the coordinated activation of protein folding and clearance pathways enables plants to withstand severe heat stress, while disruption of these processes leads to protein aggregation and ultimately cell death.
At the Kohler Mito Lab, Mayur will study the role of evolutionarily conserved AAA proteases in maintaining mitochondrial protein homeostasis. He will also develop advanced mitochondrially encoded reporter systems for genome-wide genetic screens aimed at identifying novel components and regulators of the mitochondrial protein quality control machinery.
We are very much looking forward to working with Mayur and are excited about the expertise, enthusiasm, and fresh perspectives he will bring to our team.
Welcome to Umeå University and the Kohler Mito Lab, Mayur! 🎉🔬
