Andreas Selected as Wallenberg Academy Fellow

We are incredibly proud to share that Andreas has been selected as a Wallenberg Academy Fellow.

The Wallenberg Academy Fellows program supports promising young researchers in Sweden with long-term funding, providing the opportunity to build ambitious research programs and pursue high-risk, high-reward science. Being selected is both an honor and an important milestone for our lab.

This fellowship will significantly strengthen our work on mitochondrial protein quality control, enabling us to further explore how proteostasis mechanisms safeguard mitochondrial function and cellular health. The long-term support creates stability for the team and allows us to pursue fundamental questions with the depth and rigor they require.

What Often Stays Behind the Scenes

Achievements like this are visible. The process leading up to them often is not.

The past year included rejections and moments of doubt. Establishing a new lab, securing funding, recruiting the right people, and building scientific momentum can at times feel like pushing a boulder uphill. When applications are declined, it is easy to question your ideas—or yourself. It is also tempting to compare your trajectory to others who seem to be moving faster.

But rejections do not define the value of an idea. They are part of the process. Often, they sharpen the vision, strengthen the arguments, and refine the science. Persistence, clarity, and belief in the core question matter.

This recognition is therefore not only a celebration of success, but also a reminder that progress in science is rarely linear. We are grateful for the support, proud of the team, and excited for what lies ahead.
