Swedish Foundations’ Starting Grant (SFSG) for the Kohler Mito Lab!

We are delighted to share that our lab has been awarded a Swedish Foundation’s Starting Grant (SFSG) from Kempe Stiftelserna.

Kempe Stiftelserna plays a vital role in supporting research and education in northern Sweden, and we are deeply grateful for their trust in our scientific vision. This competitive starting grant provides crucial early-stage support for building an independent and sustainable research environment.

Advancing Research on Mitochondrial Proteostasis

With this support, we will further investigate how protein quality control mechanisms safeguard mitochondria and maintain cellular homeostasis during ageing. Mitochondria are central hubs of metabolism and stress adaptation, and understanding how their proteome is maintained is essential for deciphering mechanisms underlying metabolic disease and cellular dysfunction.

The grant will enable us to:

  • Expand our experimental platform for studying mitochondrially encoded proteins

  • Recruit and support young researchers in the lab

  • Pursue mechanistic and physiological questions on mitochondrial proteostasis

Building Momentum

Establishing a new research group requires resilience, focus, and long-term vision. This award provides stability at a critical stage, allowing us to consolidate our efforts and build sustainable momentum.

We are sincerely grateful to Kempe Stiftelserna for their generous support. Most importantly, this achievement reflects the dedication, creativity, and persistence of everyone in the lab.

We look forward to the next phase of our journey and to sharing the discoveries that lie ahead.
